Increasing the examination fee (even by 50% or more) would offset some of the expenses necessary for the proposed APENS revisions. Professionals from other disciplines pay fees far greater than $100. For example, Eligible recreational therapists are charged $425.00 for CTRS certification (NCTRC), whereas an eligible assistive technology practioner can expect to pay $500.00 for RESNA’s ATP certification examination. Additionally, the APENS certification is valid for a seven year period. It really is a tremendous value compared to what professionals pay from other fields, but we may be shortchanging ourselves.
