I like the discussion points that have been brought up. I do believe that looking at methods to ensure that APENS continues to be recognized as the body of knowledge for strong Adapted Physical Educators is needed. I do think that there needs to be the recognition that there are two different things within examining APENS. One is the 15 standards themselves, the second is the exam. Both have an important role within the preparation and recognition of adapted physical educators. I believe that the proposal does a nice job to address both the development of knowledge through the different modules. I also believe that the use of an online assessment would be beneficial to those wanting to take the exam by making it more accessible. Finally, as Scott noted - we know that there are states which don't require anymore training than a 3 credit course in APE. At this time - that issue is something that is going to a lot of things to come together to bring about such a change. There are many different issues impacting that from either the state level, the public school level and/or within the universities themselves. I think that NCPERID needs to focus on APENS and how to make it available to as many folks as possible. Both in the format of the exam and also using the standards as part of the different courses taught at the university to the extent possible within each program.
