The APENS committee has several recommendations that it would like the Board and membership to address. I see these as relevant and important to their work. However, many of the recommendations deal with topics which are to specific to be the appropriate business by the membership of the Consortium in an annual meeting. The topics at the annual meeting should not be mired in micromanagement. On the other hand, criteria for elgibility for the exam and online testing format appear to be suitable topics because of the significant impact on professional preparation. Online testing should only be used if a solid accountability system is created; the requirement for taking the exam is at least 12 semester hours over the basic undergraduate course; this part of the exam could be coordinated with university courses related to field experiences; the supervised field experiences are offered after appropriate courses to prepare students are completed successfully.
